Remember me ?
Earlier this year, I became overwhelmed by... well, life, memories, being stuck home all the time, cooking all the time (I hate cooking). It was the 20th anniversary of my father's death, of the time when my mother became sick, of different unpleasant things so I quit blogging for a time.
After almost a year working from home because of Covid, I finally got back to "real" IRL work at the beginning of the month. It felt good to see my coworkers again, the readers and all the new books I had ordered while I was away, and the coms that had been left here (thanks !). I still don't like public transportations, though, can't have it all.
This year, thanks to my eldest daughter who's studying Korean (and Chinese), I became addicted to k-dramas, k-pop (BTS !!!! if someone last year had told me that I would adore a boys band, I never would have believed it, I love their lyrics and philosophy), I began reading Korean literature and even learned the Korean alphabet and a few words. Pandemics have surprising consequences. The side effect of watching k-dramas and watching videos about Koreans is... they eat all the time. They love eating, cooking and when you watch them, it's really hard to resist those ramen in your cupboard and that Korean restaurant in a not-too-faraway town. I may have gained some weight ^^
While coming back to work gave me some incentive to pick up the blog, I hesitated between two choices :
- publish like I did before
- or post my reviews on Goodreads and do a weekly update here.
I haven't made my mind up yet, but I'm really tempted by the second solution - easier to manage. I would only post the links to the reviews on sundays and other stuff during the week (the Classics spin, for example).
This week on the blog :
What I'm reading :
What I'm watching :
- My companion and I finished watching Squid game on Netflix :
A really good k-drama that made me think about Parasite, not for the faint of heart. Gripping, devastating.
- We are currently watching Prison Playbook :
This is another k-drama, on Netflix too, with a very good beginning (we've watched 2 episodes so far). It's less dark than Squid game even if it takes place in jail (sorry, I couldn't find a trailer in English)
And even if you've never heard of BTS, you probably heard about Coldplay (not my favourite band but I like the song anyway) and their latest release during a worldwide net concert recently - enjoy !
Glad your back among your people and books. Fun that you got into all things Korean while staying at home. I think you should post at whatever rate you are able and not worry if that means a few one week or only once another. :)
ReplyDeleteIn the Roar of the Sea sounds good.
Have a good week, Iza!
Yay glad you are back. All these K-dramas seem addicting. We dont have Netflix lately so we haven't watched the Squid Game but I like hearing about it vicariously. If you're only going to review on GoodReads, I'll have to make sure I'm following yours. I actually write my first impressions of a book on GoodReads, then I use it to expand on the book with my blog. So it's a bit of a shortcut. It's a hybrid approach!
ReplyDeleteAnother K-drama fan! Some of our favorites is Crash Landing on You, but we also really liked Start Up and Boys over Flowers, and Itaewon Class.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! I think blogging should never feel like a chore, there many ways to blog and it's all about your personal needs and pleasures.
ReplyDeleteThis year I started reviewing every book I read on Goodreads, and linking to them in a monthly wrap-up. I write longer reviews on the blog sometimes but not so often as before. This has been a good solution for me (and reminds me I need to go catch up on a backlog of GR reviews, because I whipped through a lot of books on vacation.)
That is funny about the K-dramas involving people eating all the time and making you hungry! I do not think I have ever seen a Korean restaurant in Switzerland so I would not have that issue of being tempted to go eat out. I do have ramen in the cupboard though. :)
