Hello, I'm linking back to The sunday post held by Kim, The Caffeinated Reviewer. Click on the link to access her post and discover plenty
of great bloggers who are dying to share their book reviews, and other things, with you !
Uneventful week. I got the blues on friday so I went for a walk in the nearby town's park, I'll post some pictures next week. The only event, if I may say so, is that I picked up embroidery again (cross stitch) after a fear years gap. I'll probably post some pictures too, sooner or later. What more can I say ? This year is long, but nobody I know has been sick so this is good. Take care :)
The review of a wonderful novel by the wonderful Daphne du Maurier
I'm still reading this on my Kindle when I can't sleep

A bit of nostalgia with the Eagles : Please come home for Christmas

A walk in the picturesque village of Heydon, in mid-Norfolk,
on a bright winter day, with a majestic tree at 6:17
ON THE NET :
Both my Mother and my sister loves embroidery. I could never get into it! I love knitting, but that's about it for any form of needlework. I do Diamond-dot-painting and my sister says it's actually quite the same. Maybe I just like all things that glitter.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have a wonderful Christmas week. May all your blues disappear and may you find joy, love and peace this Christmas time.
Lots of love,
Mareli & Elza
Knitting is good too, especially in this season ! I'm thinking about crocheting a poncho to keep me warm when I read in bed... Thank you, Marell, I hope you have a very happy and peaceful holidays with Elza :)
DeleteI am currently reading Poirot's Christmas and I am really liking it. MAybe next I should stop being intimidated by Daphne du Maurier and pick one of hers soon. Have merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI watched Hercule Poirot's Christmas with David Suchet yesterday ! Thank you Gayathri, happy holidays to you too :)
DeleteWalks have definitely been the thing that has held me together this year. I walk by the nearby lake. A walk in the park sounds nice too.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, pictures, posting pictures, thanks for reminding me ! The park has the advantage to be mud-free, it rains a lot these days after having dry weather for months. Enjoy your walks Tessa :)
DeleteI hope this week is better for you. A nice walk in the park sounds relaxing. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteThe week is better, thanks, happy holidays to you too :)
DeleteWalks outside can help. Hope you're enjoying Agatha Christie. If I haven't recommended it already, read 'Toward Zero' by Christie, you'll love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Trin Carl, I intend to re-read all of her books so I'll eventually get to t hat one :)
DeleteI love taking walks especially in more remote areas so I can get that fresh air I miss.
ReplyDeleteLove some good Sherlock Holmes.
I'm having fun re-reading his short stories. Enjoy your walks, Renee :)
DeleteI used to do cross stitch and still have a couple of kits I can do. It's been a long time though. Walking sometimes helps when I feel the blues too. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBeware, I believe your kittens will love your threads if you pick up your cross stitch. Thanks Yvonne, have a great week too :)
DeleteOh damn, I need to redo the Classics Club. I signed up for it on one of my original blogs several years ago and... well, that did not go at all.
ReplyDeleteI also need to do the "buy no books in 2021" challenge although I'm not sure I'm willing to commit to that completely.
Thanks for stopping by!
The Classics club will help me clear some of my physical TBR, but it's sometimes hard to keep up with challenges. Fingers crossed for the buy no books ! You're welcome Shannon :)
DeleteI wish I had the patients to do cross stitch! I just don't have the patients for those kinds of crafts. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and Merry Christmas.
I'm not particularly patient myself, but cross stitch is really calming - good for stressing periods of time ^^ Thanks Maureen, merry Christmas to you too :)
DeleteGetting out into nature can be so therapeutic. Glad you had a nice walk.
ReplyDeleteCross stitch is nice.
Glad to see a new cottage video. :) I'm liking those...
I love those videos too, it's my favourite personal escapism :)
DeleteYou have some great mystery reads on your shelf with Christie and Perry and Conan Doyle. I wish you a lovely holiday season!
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks Anne, you too ! I love those British mysteries :)
DeleteThanks for the mention and those You Tube videos. I love that Wilkie Collins cover. I also used to do cross stitch and needlepoint, but at the moment I'm knitting. Walking in the countryside goes a long way to keeping me semi sane at the moment. There is no way I could go an entire year without buying books!
ReplyDeleteI don't expect I will be able to but I'll try ^^ I should be knitting in winter instead of embroidering, but the temperatures are mild here. I'd love to take more walks if there weren't so much mud around here - hence, parks, lol !
DeleteI used to do cross-stitch many, many years ago and recall how enjoyable I found it. And walking is a lifesaver when feeling depressed. I know it would be a really good idea if Himself and I could restrain ourselves from buying books for a year - but I also know it isn't going to happen... I must get hold of A Loving Spirit - it's a Daphne du Maurier that I haven't read! Thank you for the recommendation - and I hope you have a lovely Christmas:))
ReplyDeleteThanks SJ, have a lovely Christmas too :) Cross-stitch and walking are very relaxing and highly needed. And book buying... I can always try ;)
DeleteSherlock Holmes got me through the beginning of the pandemic. I reread all the novels and short stories when I had insomnia back in March. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I've been fond of Sherlock Holmes (and Conan Doyle) since I was a teenager , those stories are great. Thanks AJ, you too :)
DeleteI think I should read The Loving Spirit. I am also tempted by your other books. Have a great week, and enjoy the holidays.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will, Laurel :) Thanks, happy holidays to you too !
DeleteI used to cross stitch as a pre-teen. My grandmother was super crafty and loved to sew, stitch, etc and was desperate for me to learn. Sadly, I was a disappointment in this area! Thankfully, she loved me anyway :)
ReplyDeleteMy mother was very crafty too, she was a seamstress and used to make our clothes for my sister and I. I'm not so good but cross-stitch is easy, fortunately :)
DeleteThere's something meditative about cross-stitching. In that way, it reminds me of putting together puzzles. I used to cross-stitch a lot when I was young. I hope it offers some solace during this time.
ReplyDeleteI'm very curious about the biography of Anne Bronte. I know little about her.
Thank you for sharing the lovely walk through the English village.
I am taking on a few challenges for 2021, but I won't be doing a challenge that limits my book buying. Who knows what I might need to buy in 2021?
It's exactly that, I feel calm and relaxed when I do cross-stitch, even when I make mistakes and have to remove the points, lol. Anne often is the forgotten sister, that's why I wanted to learn as much as possible about her. I already know which books I'll buy in 2021 and I'll try, very hard, and very hopefully, to limit myself to that but I have doubts :)
DeleteThank you for the mention! I have so many books that need read, I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to them.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Heather :) Have fun with your books !
DeleteI enjoyed The Eagles! Brought back memories. And I do love Christmas music. I'm sorry you had the blues. This has been a year when we've all had them occasionally, I think. I hope you enjoy some good reading over the Christmas holidays. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI love the Eagles in general, Don Henley's voice in particular, I'm happy you enjoyed :) Thanks Jan, happy holidays to you !
DeleteSo many great titles, fun week. I just re-listened to Le Horla to work on it with a student. Of course I had to study it at school, en 5e je crois. But I had forgotten how modern this is. Really amazing text. I guess once again, 11 is way to early to read some of these classics and really measure their greatness. There's an awesome audio recording + text here: https://youtu.be/h6U2zC00GEk Great YouTube channel by the way
ReplyDeleteI read Le Horla when I was in school too, I remember it scared me a little ! I remember watching at the same period an old film with Pierre Fresnay called "La main du Diable". Thanks for the link, Emma, I just subscribed :)
DeleteGetting outside and exercising helps me with the blues, too. Fresh air and sunshine is usually a good cure. Glad to hear no one you know has been sick.
ReplyDeleteI have Poirot's Christmas on hold at the library. Hope you enjoyed it. Have a great week! :)
I did enjoy it, and also watching the episode with David Suchet in the same week. Thanks Rachel, happy holidays !
