Booktubers shoutout 2 : Katie from Books and things

After discovering Booktube with Lucy, I then found what is one of my favourite channels ! She is one of the founders of Jane Austen July and Victober (Victorian October).

Katie has studied literature and history, adores the Victorian period and its authors. She used to live in Bath and worked for some time at the Jane Austen center, of all places, the luck ! She had to dress like a Georgian lady and guided Austen fans from all over the world. Now, she has moved and works for an editor.

Last year, during the first lockdown, I binged watched all her videos and learned a lot about Victorian history, society and literature... She loves Jane Austen, of course, but also the Brontës, Anthony Trollope, Elizabeth Gaskell and has a passion for Charles Dickens. She loves classics, obviously, especially Victorian classics, but also historical novels, fantasy (her partner has a background in history and reads a lot of fantasy), and wants to broaden her reading horizons. What attracts me the most, on top of her book knowledge and tastes, is her curiosity, her desire to learn more, to share her deep enthusiasm for books and it works. Oh, and she also loves Japanese literature. On the whole, she loves all things I love, even if we don't have the same tastes on everything. I didn't like The Essex serpent but I discovered The name of the wind thanks to her.

She also offers selections of books on particular topics : governesses, women who work, siblings, growing up, novels about novels, industrialisation, memory, music, etc.

To give you a rough idea of her channel, I included those two videos below. I subscribed to her channel and activated the bell ^^
