The 2021 historical fiction reading challenge

"Two reading challenges for the year is enough", I thought, I won't join another. And yet... Marg @ The Intrepid Reader has posted a tempting challenge that you can join if you click on the button below :

This challenge is open to anyone, even if you don't have a blog. Any sub-genre of historical fiction is accepted (Historical Romance, Historical Mystery, Historical Fantasy, Young Adult, History/Non-Fiction, etc.). During the following 12 months you can choose one of the different reading levels :

  • 20th Century Reader - 2 books
  • Victorian Reader - 5 books
  • Renaissance Reader - 10 books
  • Medieval - 15 books
  • Ancient History - 25 books
  • Prehistoric - 50+ books

Don't forget to grab the button and to use the challenge hashtag #histficreadingchallenge

True to my current tastes (and because I'm careful not to find myself with a reading year wholly planned ahead), I'll be a Victorian reader and join for 5 novels. I'm thinking about historical romances that are on my kindle and historical mysteries that are on my physical shelves. If I finish them before the deadline, I'll add some more and probably turn Renaissance. It looks like fun, won't you join too ?

PS : If everything goes according to plan, I should read this :
  • January - Roberta Gellis : A mortal bane (historical mystery)
  • February - Jude Deveraux : The duchess (historical romance)
  • March - Julia Quinn : The secret diary of Miss Miranda Cheever (historical romance)
  • April - Anne Perry : Death in devil's acre (historical mystery)
  • May - Elizabeth Hoyt : Not the duke's darling (historical romance)

  3. Yea! So glad you signed up for this! I am also going to do it. Haven't made a signup post yet, will do so later in the month when I have a clear indication of everything I plan for next year. Hence, when I have a new diary!!

But I think it will be great fun.

  5. I read historicals a lot as a kid, but then got away from it. Lately, I'm finding that it's quite exciting to read about the past. I'm not great at challenges, but this gives some great ideas. Hugs, RO

  8. I am going with the Victorian too. I love historical fiction but somehow managed to read so few books in that genre this year. I want to change that this coming year. I like your idea of mixing up the historical romance and mysteries. I had forgotten about the historical romances I have on my TBR shelves. You're giving me ideas! I definitely hope to get to some of my historical mysteries. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the books you read!
